Tiny Footprint Coffee proudly stands as the world’s first carbon negative coffee, a remarkable achievement stemming from a unique collaboration between Roastery 7, an artisan coffee roastery, and the Mindo Cloudforest Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to conservation. Together, they have forged a partnership that embodies the perfect blend of quality coffee and environmental stewardship.
But what makes our coffee carbon negative? It's quite straightforward. The production and distribution of 1 lb. of our coffee results in 4 lbs. of CO2 emissions. However, for each pound of coffee sold, a portion of the proceeds is allocated to funding reforestation initiatives in Ecuador’s Mindo cloud forest. Over time, these reforested areas will sequester 54 lbs. of CO2 from the atmosphere, effectively offsetting more CO2 than our operations emit.
Our reforestation efforts in the Northwestern Andes of Ecuador focus on planting native tree species across the Mindo Cloud Forest, particularly in areas heavily impacted by deforestation. These trees not only capture substantial amounts of carbon dioxide but also serve as vital habitats for numerous local bird species. Additionally, they contribute to soil conservation and the restoration of water tables, enhancing ecological resilience in the region. The Mindo Cloudforest Foundation collaborates closely with local landowners, providing employment opportunities related to forest care and restoration efforts.

We invest significant time and effort into sourcing the finest Arabica coffee beans from around the globe, prioritizing sustainability and ethical practices. Our beans are predominantly shade-grown, organic certified, and often sourced through fair-trade or Rain Forest Alliance certified channels. Moreover, we support small, family-owned farms that produce exceptional coffee, even if they are not fair-trade eligible.
All roasting and training activities take place at our roastery in Minneapolis, MN, where we are committed to achieving carbon negativity across our entire operation.
